Change to Remote Public Access Policy Effective September 22, 2023

Release Date:
September 13, 2023

The Judicial Conference of the United States approved a change to its broadcast policy that will affect the ability of public attendees to access bankruptcy proceedings via remote means.  Effective September 22, 2023, judges presiding over bankruptcy cases will be permitted to provide the public, including members of the media, with audio-only access to proceedings that do not involve witness testimony.  This means that members of the public that wish to observe portions of a hearing containing witness testimony must attend the hearing in person at the courthouse.  More information on the Judicial Conference’s revised broadcast policy is available here.

The policy does not affect the ability of case participants (e.g., parties, attorneys, and witnesses) to participate remotely when permitted to do so by the Judge.
